Poultry disease control strategies

It is necessary for having good knowledge on prevailing diseases affecting high meat and egg producing chicken and their control measures.
Commonly affecting poultry diseases:
Bacterial diseases:
E.Coli, Infectious Coryza, Chronic Respiratory Disease, Fowl Typhoid, Fowl Cholera, Bacillary White Diarrohea
Viral diseases:
New Castle Disease/Ranikhet Disease, Mareks disease, Infectious Bursal Disease
Infectious Bronchitis, Fowl Pox, Emerging diseases like Gumboro, highly pathogenic Avian Influenza will cause serious impact on growth and economic viability of the industry.
Protozoan diseases:
Coccidiosis
Ectoparasites:
Lice, Mites, , fleas, Ticks
Endoparasites:
Round worms, Tapeworms

Vaccination Schedule for preventing the viral diseases:
The regular vaccination schedule for Layer and Broiler farms are as follows:
Layer Farms:
At Hatch Mareks Disease Vaccine at the Hatchery
5-7 day of age- RDVF or Lasota through eye or nasal drops to prevent Ranikhet disease
14-21 days of age -IBD Vaccine through drinking water to prevent Infectious bursal disease
35- 42 days of age - Lasota through drinking water to prevent Ranikhet disease
56 days of age - RDVK through S/C route to prevent Ranikhet disease
16- 18th week of age - R2B Vaccine through S/C route to prevent Ranikhet disease
(Before vaccination deworming of all the birds reared in deep litter system is to be done.)
Broiler Farms:
At Hatch - Mareks Disease Vaccine at the Hatchery
5-7day of age RDVF or Lasota through eye or nasal drops to prevent Ranikhet disease
14-21days of age - IBD Vaccine through drinking water to prevent Infectious Bursal disease
35- 42 days of age -Lasota through drinking water to prevent Ranikhet disease if the marketing is going to be after 56 days.
(Deworming has to done before vaccination. Always take the advice of the local Veterinarian or the Hatchery recommendation)
